Like them basic apples

July 30, 2023

My desktop background at this moment is the dark version of the Rancho Cucamonga image by the ever brilliant Basic Apple guy. The website is a fantastic collection of visual creations - many wallpapers, but also icons and various other nice bits and bobs. I have not seen a single image I would rule out having on my desktop.

Everything looks so good that it almost feels like a shame our guy is not doing some kind of graphics work professionally.

(On the other hand, doing something for work can be a perfect way of killing the playful fun of it. Perhaps this is the perfect balance.)

Are there more sites and people like Basic Apple guy out there that I should know about?

Milestone

This seems to be the 500th text on this incarnation of my web site. That comes out as an average of four texts per month, a figure which says precisely nothing about my average publication frequency.

For starters, 2023 alone has contributed almost 200 texts already. Second year on the list is 2016 with 143 texts. That leaves all other years with about a text and a half per month on average. That sounds about right to me, I relate strongly to realizing with some surprise that a month is coming to an end all of a sudden without me having written anything here.

It is nice to know that such trends can be so effectively counteracted with a bit of focus. A rarely updated blog can come alive again at any time if you want it.

Just keep it around in your feed reader.

Everyone still uses feed readers, right?

Right?

(I look forward to not being quite so regimented in my writing again, but there is no denying it has many positive effects. My brain has felt mushy all day, and when I stared at the empty document I felt that I had precisely nothing to write about. Now, I have proven that feeling wrong, woken up a great deal, and have myself something concrete to show for my efforts.)
