Midsummer adjacent

June 22, 2023

Saturday contained, among other things, a big birthday party. Tuesday featured work's summer party. Tomorrow is midsummer eve.

Saturday will, I hope, include a late morning.

Great week!

Let us not do it like this too often!

Meta Descript-ion

I enjoy using Descript to create video clips, but some parts still have not clicked for me. I find myself reaching for the seemingly ever-changing timeline all the time, managing to do things using it but always feeling one misplaced click or drag away from wreaking havoc on my video.

I think the important clue is reaching for the timeline in the first place. The impression I have got is that the timeline is generally not the tool I should be using, I should be finding other ways of accomplishing the same things. Descript does not want to be a timeline-focused editor, and I also have not got my head around the way it wants me to select and show things in the timeline. I think it is trying to make things clearer by perhaps only showing timelines for elements I am working with at the moment or something like that, but so far what I mostly get is a feeling that things come and go unpredictably and that I would have a much easier time if I just saw everything at once even if it would take up a lot more room in the interface.

The irony is not lost on me that my day job is building a interface, the exact superpower of which is that elements come and go in a highly dynamic fashion, so that only relevant things are displayed at any given moment.

Time to find a few more tutorials, read some more documentation, and simply create more videos and play around more.
