Very soon after finishing yesterday's post, I got the somewhat dreaded notification that I could now choose a new delivery option. Postnord could re-try home delivery the next day, deliver to the nearest pickup point within one to two days, or I could come pick it up at the terminal myself. I siezed the opportunity to not let them do anything more with the package, selected "I will come get it" and lept into the car, half expecting that they would have started shipping the darn thing somewhere by the time I could get to the terminal (a fifteen minute drive).
But no, they actually did have my package by the time I got there! In a fascinatingly banged up box at that (I'm going to ask at some point whether the box was that … afflicted when it left the sender.)
So, what was in the box? A monitor six thousand pixels wide.

I was expecting to really like having all the space, but I was sort of expecting there to be other details to be bothered by, things which would make me feel that, in the end, this would not be the monitor for me.
So far - admittedly only a day into my test period - I have found no such things. I am almost glad this monitor was not around last time I was screen shopping, because there is a real risk I could have talked myself into getting it. Having so much space in retina resolution - on a single screen! - is simply wonderful. Plus, of course, a whole armada of ports, a very interesting webcam, and even some Mac software to explore.
I put together a short video with some early impressions, more is guaranteed to come. In episode 357 of Björeman // Melin // Åhs, for example. I just edited that episode on the monitor, and having the extra space for more waveform, floating accessory windows, show notes, and reference material was just as nice as I thought.
